I left my heart in Kenya

Wale Wale is filled with a kind soul, vibrant energy and endless love.

My name is Frida. I visited Wale first time back in 2013 when I was on a backpacking trip at 18 years old. I didn’t need to spend more than an afternoon dancing with kids at the center to understand that there was something special. The vibes, the care and the happiness of the members was something else and i felt the urge to be back.

After 11 years I finally returned, and even though the people I met in 2013 were not there; the soul and heart of the organization is still much present. What is very special to me is specifically some things

  • The care for one another
  • The way everyone helps
  • The energy and vibes

For me, being a dancer back in the days, I especially the dance sessions an expression for all the elements that encompasses/make up Wale Wale, at least for me! In the eyes of the youths I see so much heart soul and of course, body! The older youths teaching the younger is a natural part and there is no prestige or pressure, just pure happiness.

As a volunteer at Wale I have been supporting with marketing materials, some of it you can see in this website. I have been creating content for social media and also, thanks to funds from friends and family, we now have a high quality speaker that contributes and adds to the Wale Wale vibes as well as other things we could buy thanks to the contributions. I was also hosting educational sessions within computer tools and skills for the staff, and after purchasing a new camera thanks to the donations from my Swedish friends, the hope is that the content creation will continue even after I am gone.

Wale Wale is a place where children and youths get an opportunity of education and expressions, a place to rest and play and space for self growth and of course, dance!

I love you all and I will miss you a lot!
