My dream destination

During the last couple of months, we have had writing and computer session with our young members. During these sessions, we have given the children subjects to write about along with instructions on how to write a blog post and use the internet to find information and inspiration. We are now posting some of the texts written by the children here, along with pictures they’ve chosen themselves. Hopefully, this will give people everywhere an insight into the minds and feelings of some children living in Kibera. First up, we have some texts written about a place the children dream about visiting sometime in their lifetime!

Gilberto

Hi, My name is Gilberto. I live in Kibera with both of my parents and my siblings. I would like to go to London, England. The official language of England is english known as British English. The population of England is more than 60,000,000 people.

I would like to go there and play rugby at England national team. This team is among the best rugby teams in the whole world. They play well and have good tactics. My favorite player is Owen Farrell. He plays as a fly-half but he often plays as inside centre. He is also the captain of the team. I like him because he is very fast when he plays and very strong as well. That is why I would enjoy playing with him.

Another reason why I would like to go to England is their traditional cuisine. I would for example try the English breakfast. It consists of bacon, fried egg, sausage, mushrooms, baked beans, toast and grilled tomatoes. British people often drink tea with milk or coffee with their breakfast. One of the things I would enjoy the most besides playing rugby would be trying to make the royal guards laugh because they are not allowed to move, smile or talk to anyone. After messing with those guards I would visit Madame Tussaud museum. I find it interesting because you can find there many wax statues of famous people including my favourite football player Cristiano Ronaldo.

In conclusion I would enjoy visiting England because of their traditional food and my favorite sports team and also museums. I think I would have a lot of fun there.

Deltrise, 13 years old

Hi! My name is Deltrise Achieng. A Candidate learning at Jamhuri primary school. I Am 13 years old and I was born and live in Kenya with my mom and my two brothers. I would like to go to visit Jamaica, located in the continent North America and its capital Kingston. I love Jamaica because of its coastal areas. The place looks very adventures because of the adventure island and it looks astonishingly good. I love Jamaica because of the Caribbean island because of it’s beautiful beaches, delicious food and the historical sites around Bob Marley museum. Jamaica has a population of 2.9 million people and less than one percent are Rastafarians. Jamaicans religion is 24% C.O.G,11% S.D.A,10% pentecostal and 7% baptist.

NOTE: Having dreadlocks does not make someone a Rasta.

I love Jamaica because of its delicious meals especially the goat curry and jerk. Jamaica’s currency is Jamaican dollars. Jamaica has the most beautiful beaches that’s why I would like to visit Jamaica and because of it’s delicious foods. I would enjoy Jamaica because now I know about it and it’s filled with the things I love although it’s tropical and hot all year round. Jamaica is so adventures!
